September 30, 2024 Update

We're excited to share the latest developments on our stadium project! This week, the Wahlund Construction team has begun pouring concrete for the steps, goal post footings, and the bleacher pad. This essential work is progressing smoothly and will lay a strong foundation for the next phases of construction.

In addition, we're gearing up for the installation of turf, which is scheduled to begin in just a few weeks. This marks a significant milestone in our project, bringing us one step closer to creating an outstanding facility for our community.

Thank you for your continued support as we work towards completing this exciting project! Stay tuned for more updates!

Construction is underway, unexpected geotechnical design needs had to be addressed, which pushed out the project timeline approximately 6 weeks. Most of the excavation and soil stabilization has been completed, concrete flatwork is underway, with track paving and surfacing and turf to follow. Scope of Work: Work consists of, but is not limited to, remodel of an existing Community Stadium with the construction of new Track and Field. Related Path of Travel, installation of slabs and access for future portable stands, storm drain, irrigation & other site development will also be completed.

Cost: Stadium contract amount is $5,850,000:

Base bid sum of $5,330,000.00 (See above Scope of Work.), with additional alternates in the amounts of:

Alternate 5 – Off-hauling Soil – $68,000.00.

What's getting taken down: the current grass field and track are to be removed, the old equipment shed at the southeast of the field will be demolished, and other misc. earthwork to accommodate the installation of the above scope.

Project bid was awarded to Wahlund Construction, Inc.

Physical Education and Field House Building Replacements

The existing buildings were found to have faults directly beneath the buildings.  In order for the College to meet the regulatory guidelines set in the Alquist-Priolo Act of 1972, the State has allocated funding for this new construction to take place in an area of campus that has been approved through geological site studies.  The new PE building will be constructed in what is now the left field area of the existing baseball field and the Field House will be constructed in the stadium in a location near the former location of the grandstands.

There are two prequalified bidders for this project, Broward Construction and Wahlund Construction. Bids are due August 8th, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

RCEA EV Charging Stations

The College met with RCEA to assess the feasibility of RCEA providing EV Charging Stations on Main Campus for public and college use through a at no cost the College, grant and RCEA match funded program. The College also set up a meeting between RCEA and Forefront Power (Solar Project Contractor) to further discuss project options for EV Charging stations on campus. The RCEA project was determined to be infeasible at this time due to lack of available infrastructure, and cost to install necessary electrical tie in for the project. Staff is having conversations with Forefront Power to add charging stations as a part of or supplemental to the Solar Microgrid Project.
